Stocktakes and V8s

So normalcy has been established once again in the household after all the shows were over for me in May, and the car racing was done for M on Friday just gone. Yay!

I was planning to do a big shop for our trip from June 30 for all the sales, but it seems as though once again I've missed the boat. One store I was after had their sale start early June and we just caught the end of it yesterday, buying 1 set of ski pants for M. and a down jacket for me. Most of the stuff we liked didn't have a high enough freeze tolerance rating, or there were none in our size. That's what happens when you miss the start of sales! Still, we have made a start.

Kathmandu are having their winter sale Thursday this week, so that's encouraging. :) Time for round two shortly.

I'm also starting to plan for the move out to my parent's place in September. I really need to tell them we're thinking of moving back earlier in order to save save save. The date I have in mind is perfect, as M. has the cars on again the following week and will save a lot of time and travel if we are all moved back in out West.

The Slowdown

The other day my body decided to remind me that I'd been pushing it too hard for most of May, and I came down with a cold. People are still very busy at work, and so a few people have come in sniffling which is awful. Should life really be that bad you can't take time off work if you're sick? I myself had a bit of an inner debate. Sure, I had stuff to do at work...and it was ONLY a cold. But then again, the world wasn't going to end if I took A DAY off...and my head felt awful. So I called in sick. I am once again reminded that I am in the wrong job, which is any job where things 'fall apart' if you take time off, or you hesitate to take holidays because such and such an event is on. I do not want my life dictated by someone else's event schedule, thank you!

This weekend I had planned a bit of a catch up weekend with people, so I was sorry to have to cancel on them - because I really did want to hang out. But I've been ignoring my body for a while, so I thought, it's time to just CHILL.

I've curled up with a Frankie Magazine for a change and am going to keep dreaming about what the future has in store :)

First round of catchup

Today I caught up with a friend I haven't seen in a month or so. It was great. We mostly wandered around the city and caught up, though I did drag her to the shops as I was on a mission to buy boots that I can live in all winter (I have decided to get rid of ANY shoe that gives me blisters after I've worn them in) and I also went on a personal mission to buy a blank book to record my thoughts, ideas and sketches in. I really need to use this one for creativity because I've noticed that since highschool, I haven't done a single creative project. How can I say I like art if I never DO it anymore?
I love the cover:
I love the possibilities of this book. And I also like to think of where I will be in 365 days' time, when I finish that last page. I am going to make it my goal to add something to it every day. Something creative. Maybe even a sentence describing the highlight of the day. And also the list of things I want to do/be/have.

Cookery

I have been on a bit of a cooking tangent the past week. Probably due to the fact I have gotten my life back after a seriously messed up month at work. Ugh. I never want to do THAT again!
During this nuts month, M. had to pick up a lot of the house stuff, because I just didn't do it. Things like cooking and washing and doing the bread/milk run. So I had a fun week finding new recipies and churing out some good nosh.

And if I could have some cook books to expand the repertoire, here's what I'd choose:
